Union Cabinet Approves ‘Ayushman Bharat’ Health Scheme

  1. “The target beneficiaries.. will be more than 10 crore families belonging to poor and vulnerable population based on SECC database,” the government said in a release.
  2. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday has given the approval for the launch of the Ayushman Bharat- National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM), which was announced in the Budget.
  3. By this scheme there will be provide of a cover of ₹5 lakh per family per year.
  4. “The target beneficiaries.. will be more than 10 crore families belonging to poor and vulnerable population based on SECC database,” the government said in a release. “AB-NHPM will subsume the on-going centrally sponsored schemes — Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) and the Senior Citizen Health Insurance Scheme (SCHIS).”

IRCTC Introduces Billing through Point of Sale in Trains

  1. IRCTC introduces billing through Point of Sale (POS) hand held machines in trains to check overcharging by vendors
  2. The POS billing machines are being introduced in trains in phases Currently it is avai1able in train no. 2627-28, SBC-NDLS Karnataka Express on pilot basis In next phase, 100 POS machines are being commissioned on 26 trains
  3. Taking a step towards passenger awareness for menu & tariff of meal and catering items being sold onboard in trains, IRCTC is introducing billing through Point of Sale (POS) hand held machines in trains. There have been some complaints of passengers regarding overcharging by the vendors in trains. IRCTC has been continuously taking passenger friendly steps so as to ensure smooth catering services as well as disseminate information critical for passenger travelling in trains. This will help not only making passengers aware of relevant information but also in improving the passenger satisfaction.
  4. The POS billing machines are being introduced in trains in phases. IRCTC has already introduced POS machines in train no. 12627-28, SBC-NDLS Karnataka Express on pilot basis. Further, in next phase, 100 POS machines are being commissioned on 26 trains.
  5. There are 50 rakes (composition of coaches forming a train) of the identified 26 trains. Each rake of the train shall be provided with 2 POS machines each to start with which shall be progressively increased as per the usage & response from passengers. IRCTC is also deploying its officials onboard on these trains for the purpose of monitoring the catering services. These Officials are also being provided with Tablets (Tab) which will be used for collection of passenger feedbacks.

Punjab Government to Impose Permanent Ban on Hookah Bars

  1. The Punjab government has taken the decision to ban the permanent on the hookah bars in the State; this ban will be done without giving any of the warning that is pre given in every two months. This aim has been created to remove the unhealthy like things that is tobacco in various forms.
  2. The State Cabinet, in a meeting has been taken on Monday, in there has been the approval has been given to ban the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 (COTPA 2003), for the prevention and control of diseases caused by the use of tobacco products.
  3. “The amendment would result in a complete ban on the running of hookah bars in the State. The proposed amendment will be placed before the Legislative Assembly and, after being passed by the House, will be reserved for the assent of the President of India,” read an official statement.
  4. In the present, Section 144 of CrPC is promulgated against all hookah bars in all the districts of the States for two months, with extension required at the end of the period.

  1. State-owned Indian Oil Corp (IOC) has launched home-delivery of diesel on the support of the Pune and plans for the spread of the doorstep delivery of the fuel to other parts of the country in the coming of the age, its Chairman Sanjiv Singh said on Wednesday.
  2. The country’s biggest oil company has set the diesel dispenser, same like as it is seen at the petrol pumps, on a midsized truck that will be full of the tank for delivering the fuel at customers doorsteps in Pune.
  3. “We are the first company to have started doorstep delivery after receiving clearance from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO),” he said.

  1. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Shri Nitin Gadkari today inaugurated the Inland ferry services in the port city of Vasco in Goa.
  2. In his keynote address, the Minister said that while addressing the needs of the poor, environment and ecosystem must be given its due priority. To achieve this, all the stakeholders need to make a concerted decision and action. He said, India has about seven thousand five hundred kilometers of seashore, which can help the development of the country while giving tourism the much-required boost. Goa owes its emergence as a tourism state due to its coastal belt. The tourism sector has very high potential for Investment and employment generation.
  3. The Minister said, use of waterways is economic, environmental friendly; and needs better utilization. Shri Gadkari pointed out that tourists traveling through the waterway can save time and money, avoid pollution, and ease the road congestion.
  4. He said, the central government has so far provided Rs 15,000 crore for development of roads in Goa. He assured that Goa would receive all the funds required for the development projects under ‘Sagarmala’. Shri Gadkari suggested that the hotels and airports in Goa can be connected with waterways. He said that Goa could become a ‘Cruise destination’ in the future, which shall generate huge employment.

It is believed that Public-Private Partnerships, aided by technology, can bring radical transformation in the country, boosting implementation of various government schemes,” said NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.

  1. The NHAI pavilion at 105th Indian Science Congress- Pride of India Expo held at Imphal from 16-20 March 2018 has been adjudged as BEST DESIGN PAVILION. Najma Heptulla, Governor of Manipur, conferred the award.
  2. The NHAI had put up an exhibition stall to highlight its Projects and other initiatives like Electronic Toll Collection, Wayside Amenities, Incident Management, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Road Safety etc.
  3. The stall attracted huge number of visitors, which included delegates/ scientists attending the congress from various parts of the country, School and College Students and other local visitors. Apart from displaying the Projects, a Selfie Point was created with a good Highway Projects at the background.
  4. Besides this, NHAI Exhibition stall at “Destination Bihar Expo 2018” held at Gandhi Maidan, Patna from 09-13 March 2018 ranked at Third Position in “Government Sector category”. Bihar Industries Association and Department of Industries, Govt. of Bihar jointly organized the exhibition.
