  1. The city of the Kerala that is Thiruvananthapuram, Naya Raipur in Chhattisgarh and Rajkot in Gujarat have puts in the new list of 30 smart cities that is announced today for development under the Centre’s Smart City Mission.
  2. Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said, “Of the 30 cities announced, 26 have proposed affordable housing projects that benefit the urban poor, 26 cities will be taking up school and hospital projects, 29 will be taking up redesign and redevelopment of roads,”

India's biggest municipal bonds program launched in Maharashtra

  1. On Thursday in the project of to finance by 24×7 water supply project, the Pune Municipal Corporation has launched India’s biggest municipal bonds programme. This project looks to take the invest of Rs 2,264 crore in five years.
  2. Union Urban Development minister Venkaiah Naidu, who launched the programme at Bombay Stock Exchange, said, “As cities need more resources to address gaps in infrastructure, they need to look at newer avenues for resource mobilisation. Municipal bond is one such tool. It is, however, not used much for various reasons and this needs to change in the context of capital-intensive urban transformation.”
  3. This is the Pune’s first bond programme that is since the publication of the Issue and Listing of Debt Securities by Municipalities Regulations, in the year 2015, by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
  4. Fadnavis said, “We feel a need to look at new and innovative ways to finance the projects for various infrastructure services. The funds raised from the bond issue will be used to shape Pune as a smart city.”

A commemorative postage stamp released on completion of 50 years of Passport Act

  1. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Friday it is announced that there will be 10 per cent reduction in fee for passport applicants under 8 years of age and over 60 years at an event held on the completion of 50 years of the Passport Act, 1967.
  2. To increase the service of the passport services in our citizens in the larger amount there should be the, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Posts (DOP) have agreed to utilise head post offices in the country as Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) for delivering passport-related services to the citizens of our country, Sinha said.
  3. The Minister for Communications Shri Manoj Sinha said, “The Passport Seva Project (PSP) has been a watershed in the history of passport issuance in India with its successful implementation in the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The entire process of citizen service delivery has been re-engineered, standardized and automated. Speaking after releasing a commemorative postage stamp on completion of 50 years of The Passports Act, 1967”,
  4. “We have brought improvement in passport rules, services and focused on doorstep delivery,” External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said.

Government launches VAJRA scheme to attract Indian scientist abroad

  1. The project of to bring the Indian scientists abroad and India-based researchers for conducting joint researches in India, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) on Thursday launched a scheme named ‘Visiting Advanced Joint Research Faculty’ (VAJRA).
  2. The payment of the faculties that will work that will be US $15,000 in the first month of residency and for the remaining months US $10,000, it is said by the Harsh Vardhan, adding that the central government had been stressing upon converting brain-drain into brain-gain.
  3. Minister of Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan said, “Under this scheme, scientists or senior researchers abroad – of Indian origin or otherwise – can collaborate with faculties here,”
  4. Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology said, “Science has no boundaries or different perspectives based on region… it’s rather universal. The idea of the scheme is to bring the best of the world to India and conduct research here,”

Saudi Arabia imposes heavy family tax on dependents

  1. Saudi Arabia has announced to put the tax on 100 riyals per dependent per month on expatriates. The “dependent fee” will be installed fom the next month July 1 and it is being expected to pose a financial burden on the over 41 lakh Indian families living in that country.
  2. Riyaz, an Indian worker in Saudi Arabi commented on the situation and said, “From July, I have to pay SR 3,600 per annum on dependent visas, apart from paying for my children’s education. I’ll be spending half my salary on dependent visas. Next year, the visa charges go up to SR 7,200, in 2019 it will be SR 10,800, and in 2020 it will be SR 14,400.
  3. An Indian worker in Saudi Arabi commented on the situation and said, “My salary is SR 2,000 per month now, and I may get an increment of SR 500 in 2020. I’ll be spending half my salary on dependent visas. Most workers like me will have to send their families back to India. I can’t even imagine the situation of workers earning less than I do.”
  4. Mohd Yousuf Ali told them to the reporter, “Hundreds of people have already sent their families away to India because of the dependent fee. They had to rush so that their children could take admissions in schools back in India.”

  2. Jin Liqun, President of the bank said, “AIIB supports its members in their transition towards a low-carbon energy mix by promoting the improvement of energy efficiency, such as upgrading the existing transmission and distribution networks,”
  3. Liqun said, “I am delighted that AIIB is working closely with India, who is our second largest shareholder, in energy and other infrastructure sectors, and we expect the Andhra Pradesh – 24×7 Power for All project to be the first of many projects AIIB invests in India,”

  1. A SpaceX rocket, Falcon 9 have launched successfully a Bulgarian communications satellite, this mission marked the second time the company reused the rocket’s first stage.
  2. The Falcon 9 has carried the BulgariaSat-1 lifted off from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center on Friday, it told in the report news of media. After lift-off, the spacecraft separated from the Falcon 9’s second stage 35 minutes.
  3. SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk tweeted shortly after the landing, “Rocket is extra toasty and hit the deck hard (used almost all of the emergency crush core), but otherwise good,”. He had tweeted prior to the launch that, because of the high reentry loads, there was a “good chance (the rocket booster doesn’t make it back”.
  4. This mission marked the second time the company reused the rocket’s first stage, Falcon 9 first stage, after the March launch of the SES-10 satellite. The first stage for this launch first flew in January on a launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, carrying 10 Iridium Next satellites into orbit before landing on a ship offshore.

BCCI to head ICC governance committee 

  1. The ICC Board makes the meeting on the final day of the Full Council in London on Friday and has decided to form a new Governance Committee, with India heading it. The BCCI has also been included in the Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.
  2. The BCCI has been going to express and to recreate the new important committees, as the global body overhauled its financial and governance structures for the 2016-2023 rights period.

A cricket board official told in the report of the media, “The new governance committee will study all aspects of the current model and proposed models and will bring them to the Board of Directors. The five-member Committee will be headed by the acting BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary. We have been included as a member in the Finance Committee as well.”

  1. Frank Kush, a Hall of Fame coach, the person who has changed the whole Arizona State from a football backwater into a national powerhouse in the 1960s and 1970s has died on June 22 at the age of 88.
  2. During Mr. Kush’s 22 seasons at Arizona State, his teams had a winning record 19 times. He found his greatest success from 1970 to 1975, when the Sun Devils compiled a record of 62-9.
  3. Frank Kush, Hall of Fame Coach of Arizona State has told Sports Illustrated in June 1981, “One day I’m a coach of the year, I’m proud, happy, and successful. Then, suddenly, I’m an ogre.
