  3. “Oxfam calculated that if India were to reduce inequality by a third, more than 170 million people would no longer be poor. Government spending on health, education and social protection is woefully low. The tax structure looks reasonably progressive on paper, but in practice, much of the progressive tax is not collected. On labour rights and respect for women in the workplace, India also fares poorly, reflecting that the majority of the labour force is employed in the agricultural and informal sectors, which lack union organization,” said the report.

  1. On The Monday, the government has been extending its date of the end August 16 for businesses to opt for composition scheme under the GST regime.
  2. “With a view to ease the compliance burden of provisionally migrated small taxpayers opting to pay tax under the composition scheme, it has been decided to extend the time limit for filing intimation for composition levy up to August 16, 2017,” the finance ministry said in a statement.
  3. The ministry said, “Taxpayers who were provisionally migrated by virtue of being registered under the existing laws, but who are no longer required to be registered under GST, the period of applying for Cancellation of Registration is being extended up to September 30, 2017,”
  4. Under the scheme that has been started that is the, traders, manufacturers and restaurants can pay tax at 1 per cent, 2 per cent and 5 per cent, respectively. By the report of the ministry it is said that the tax payers’ wants to cancel their GST registration can do so till September 30, 2017.
