Government Launched ‘Ganga Gram’ project at Ganga Gram Swachata Sammelan

  1. Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Uma Bharti on Saturday has initiated the ‘Ganga Gram’ project as part of the government’s clean Ganga mission, that has given the named as the Namami Gange, for holistic sanitation development in 4,470 villages on the banks of the river.
  2. This project has been launched by the project for the Ganga Gram Swachata Sammelan here which was attended by more than 1,400 delegates including 500 village heads from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, state government officials and Ganga Swachhta volunteers.
  3. At the launch event, Bharti said, “Development takes place only if adequate care and precaution are taken in the project to protect the environment of the Ganga.” The Ganga Gram project “depends on the commitment and resolve of the people living on its banks”, she said.
  4. Water Resources, Ganga Rejuvenation and River Development Minister Nitin Gadkari appealed to the village heads to pledge unconditional support for making the river and the villages on its banks clean.

  1. The foreign office is on an “outreach” mission that is the new program that has the, SAMEEP, and the main aim of this is to go farward the Indian foreign policy and its global engagements to students across the country.
  2. The ministry of external affairs has said for the one of the member that is the their hometowns and particularly their alma mater. Their job would be to engage students in the schools and colleges in the jobs that the ministry is engaged in, so as to give them a fair idea of how India engages with the world, what are its foreign policy priorities and how diplomacy is actually conducted.
  3. The objective “is to familiarise school and college students in India about the functioning of the MEA, as well as introducing them to the key elements of India’s foreign policy and its success stories. We want to engage with the youth at the grassroot level,” said MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar.
  4. “MEA had also started an interactive program on social media called “ask the spokesperson” answering questions from anyone on aspects of Indian foreign policy,” Kumar added.

Bengaluru to Host 7th International Coffee Festival

  1. The seventh edition of the India International Coffee Festival (IICF) has been going to held at the Bengaluru from January 16-19.
  2. The four-day IICF 2018, being organised by the India Coffee Trust and State-run Coffee Board to promote the Indian coffees globally, that has going to over 100 companies, 600 delegates and some 10,000 visitors, organisers said.
  3. Karnataka Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge said, “IICF will help promote Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru and Sakleshpura not just as the coffee growing estates but also as tourist destinations in view of their great landscape, and unique culture and cuisines.”
  4. The Board, Krishna said, “He was working towards enhancing the growers’ share in the consumer spend. Citing data from an UK daily, Krishna said big brands globally sell a cup of coffee at an average of $4, whereas the growers’ share in that is only five cents.” “All the efforts of the Coffee Board is to see how we can help the growers move from five cents upwards. Even if we increase by two or three times, it will be a significant achievement. Most of our endeavours are in that direction,” Krishna said.
  5. “Further, the Board is expected to finalise a branding campaign for the promotion of Indian coffees. Referring to the problems posed by the white stem borer to the arabica variety,” Krishna said the Board was working with artificial intelligence and biotech firms to find a solution to the pest menace.

Quikr Acquires HDFC’s Digital, Realty Units in all Stock Deal

  1. India’s largest mortgage lender HDFCBSE 0.36 % has sold out its one of the old reality that is the HDFC Realty and its digital real estate business HDFC Developers which owns HDFC Red to online classifieds player Quikr.
  2. The all-stock deal will see HDFC pick up around 3.5% stake in Quikr for the two businesses, according to sources, which have collectively been valued at about Rs 357 crore.
  3. “It’s a win win transaction for both the companies. In India the real estate industry is going through a transition and large organised players like us can build a strong brand that consumers can trust in unorganised markets like brokerage,” said Quikr CEO Pranay Chulet.
  4. “We are increasingly seeing real estate sales happen in the online space, so it is a great online – offline partnership for us,” said Renu Karnad, MD, HDFC Ltd told ET. “We want to use data analytics on all Quikr platforms to get us housing loans.”

Airtel Payments Bank CEO Shashi Arora Resigns

Airtel Payments Bank chief executive Shashi Arora has resigned the company after seeing the many of the confusions and the problems in the company that is in the India’s largest telecom operator and its payment bank’s alleged violation of rules on using Aadhaar for its electronic know-your-customer (e-KYC) verification process.

  1. Lieutenant General B S Sahrawat has been selected at to serve the reign at the National Cadet Corps as its Director General. The General Officer is a third generation army officer. He is alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He was commissioned in December 1980 in 13th Battalion (Rezang La), the Kumaon Regiment.

  3. “We have seen such fights before — like between Mayweather and Pacquiao — then why a fight between Vijender and Amir cannot be arranged. In fact, we are working on it, and hopefully it will take place.
  4. “Amir is 72 (kg) and presently Vijender is 76.2 and if he has to come down it can be tough for him. His trainer’s advice would be the deciding factor,” Tomar said.
  5. “Happy to end this year on a winning note. Now I will look forward to play at least two titles next year — Commonwealth and World title. I would like to thank the people of Jaipur for making this show a big success and thanks to all my fans across India for their support,” Vijender said after his bout at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
  6. He added, “I am really happy on winning this fight. I know he was a tough fighter and that is why the fight continued till 10 rounds, but yes, I was sticking to the strategy planned by my coaches, and that helped me in winning this fight.”
