Plastic articles including glasses and plates are used in large numbers during functions, especially marriage ceremonies in the state. We can reuse, recycle and reduce plastic. But, even if we reuse such non-biodegradable articles, there will not be much decline in its presence. So, reducing its use is the more effective way to achieve our plastic-free society goal”
  3. With the implement of this green protocol, the wastage of the plastic and other non-biodegradable particles in which there will be the disposable glasses and plates and thermol decorations will be kept away from marriage functions.

Shri J P Nadda launches Skill for Life save a Life

  1. Shri J P Nadda, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare has launched the ‘Skill for Life, Save a Life’ which is the initiative of the new life line for the state.   1. Alexander Lukin, who is Director, Center for East Asian and SCO Studies, MGIMO-University said, “India and Pakistan are going to join. This will seriously transform the organisation. It will be much more representative, the largest regional organisation in the world. One would not be able to describe it as Russia and China dominated or a club of dictators.”
  2. P Stobdan, who has been India’s envoy to Kyrgyzstan and a senior fellow at IDSA, said, “Putin and Xi supposedly had offered to play a mediatory role between Sharif and Modi at Astana, if India assures cessation of hostilities against the innocent people of Kashmir.”
  3. Meena Singh Roy said, “Ever since its creation in 2004, RATS has focused on collective counter-terrorist training and has coordinated with member-states specifically over the Winter Asian Games in Astana in 2010 and during the Beijing Olympics in 2008. The main objective is to establish a mechanism of communication between the SCO member-states in order to facilitate greater coordination between each state’s internal security organs.
  4. Meena said, “It organises regular meetings of border agencies to discuss effective means to tackle the existing challenges. It has prevented 600 terrorist attacks. Last year, 400 terrorists were arrested and more than 100 extradited. Over 900 anti-terrorist personnel have been trained till 2014.”

India, Lanka sign pact for $318 million line of credit

  1. It is said in the official report that, India signed an agreement today with the neighboring nation, Sri Lanka to provide USD 318 million as line of credit to develop the island nation’s railway sector.
  2. This agreement of the USD $318 was signed by RHS Samaratunga, Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Mass media, and David Rasquinha, Managing Director of India’s Export0Import Bank in Colombo.

China has been doing heavy investments for the development of ports that could possibly be used by its navy as a base in Sri Lanka, although Beijing says these investments are a part of its One Belt and One Road (OBOR) initiative that is aimed at linking it with the Europe and Africa through the Indian Ocean.

  1. SBI said, “Post merger, we have the ability to successfully process 15,000 transactions per second, versus actual utilization of 4,600 transactions per second, making us future ready,”
  2. “The benefits of this merger will have a ripple effect on the liability franchise as well as the asset portfolio. As the bank takes advantage of the economies of scale, it will lead to a reduction in the cost of doing business and improved efficiencies,” it is said in the report.
  3. “Net profit growth, however, remained muted at 5.36 per cent year-on-year due to elevated credit costs and reached Rs 10,484 crore. This financial year was also special owing to the impact of demonetization in Q3 and severe drought conditions in South India,” said Bhattacharya who took home Rs Rs 28, 95,900 as salary and allowances in 2016-17.

  3. The company State-run Power Finance Corp will raise fund by the external commercial bonds that is the rupee denominated masala bonds and other instruments, as said by the managing director.
  4. According to Sharma, the company will offer a identified and authorised product for power transmission projects that are auctioned under tariff-based competitive bidding. The State-run Power Finance Corp will also expand into refinancing of commissioned thermal, hydro and renewable projects.

RBI announces second Bi-monthly monetary policy

  1. “The current state of the economy underscores the need to revive private investment, restore banking sector health and remove infrastructural bottlenecks. Monetary policy can play a more effective role only when these factors are in place. Accordingly, the MPC decided to keep the policy rate unchanged with a neutral stance and remain watchful of incoming data,” the MPC said in its second bi-monthly monetary policy statement for 2017-18.
  2. “Growth and investment need to improve. These are indicators which are available. Any finance minister under these circumstances would like a rate cut, the private sector would like a rate cut. But then when you entrusted it with the MPC, I would rather wait for their decision,” MPC had said.
  3. “The RBI will continue to work in partnership with the government to address the stress in banks’ balance sheets. Better alignment of administered interest rates on small savings with market rates and stepped-up recapitalisation of banks to facilitate adequate flow of credit to productive sectors are important steps to follow through,” RBI Governor Urjit Patel said.
