  1. The government today launched a dedicated website allowing the public the access to download 3,000 maps prepared by the Survey General of India (SGI) but made Aadhaar mandatory for the purpose.
  2. The 250 years has complete Today by SGI.
  3. It has become necessary to make non-defense maps accessible for public, under the 2005 National Map Policy.
  4. Vardhan said “We want to make it a scientific collaboration between India and Nepal to remeasure maps.”
  5. The SGI has Mandate of making maps and cartographic documents for the country.

  4. On Monday the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah has unveiled the pink patrol cars called the pink Hoysalas and the suraksha mobile phone app.

No income tax for Saudi citizens, says Saudi Arabia finance minister

  2. The value-added tax planned for 2018 would “not be raised above 5% before 2020,” he said.

General Insurance industry grows 32% in FY 17

 

  1. In the financial year 2016-17 General Insurance industry is likely to grow by 32%, aided by demand for crop insurance and pick-up in motor sales.
  2. During the period, the industry generated total premium of Rs 1.27 lakh crore from Rs 96,376 crore in the previous year.
  3. In the last year Private sector saw 35.72% growth. HDFC Ergo saw a premium growth of 72.81% to Rs 5,840 crore. Iffco Tokio saw 49% growth in income to Rs 5,485 crore.
  4. The lowest growth among state owned companies saw by National insurance, as the company was focused on improving its solvency margins.

 

 

Number of swipe machines up 10 lakh since November 8

 

  1. Since demonstration on November 8, 2016 the no. of shops accepting card payments has jumped from 15 lakh to 25 lakh with banks adding over 10 lakh point of sale terminals.
  2. The level of digitization, the requirement of currency notes in the economy would come down by over Rs. 1 lakh crore, according to SBI.
  3. The RBI published recent data on digital payments, indicates sharp growth in digital payments.
  4. ItzCash, another digital payments company, has developed a PoS terminal and it plans to deploy a lakh machines shortly.
